Caledon Music Festival at Alton Mill
This August Caledon Music Festival returned for a gorgeous afternoon of classical music. Our outdoor tented Annex swelled with the sounds of viola, violin, flute, and cello for an unforgettable experience.
An article from the Caledon Citizen says: "During the intermission, the Citizen caught up with Caledon Music Festival organizer Terry Lim. Lim said he was very pleased with the turnout for the festival, explaining on the seventh he actually had to add more tickets than planned to meet the demand from people hoping to get a spot last minute. He said people were enjoying the music, and that he and the other performers wanted to bring a balance of strong, passionate music, and lighter sounds for a summer day... The acoustics at the Alton Mill concert location were great, said Lim, as the walls bounced sound off of them and created a church-like sound."

The Hills are Alive with Cyclists!
There is no place more picturesque in fall then the hills of Caledon. It is also a prime time for cyclists to take in the beauty and the exciting ride the hills have to offer. Two bike rallies are visiting the Mill this month:
Last Sunday, riders in the final instalment of Vitess' 2012 Gran Allenamento series, visited the Mill as they took on Caledon’s challenging terrain. The popular annual rally is known among cyclists as the quintessential cycling lifestyle event.
West End Food Coop second annual bike rally takes riders from the city to the farm making a stop at the Mill September 16. The rally will raise money for WEFC programming that will make healthy foods accessible to people with low income in Toronto’s west end.
Food & Art came together in this year’s Cuisine-Art, a celebration of all things artistic and tantalizing.
By day guests were treated to samples of the area’s best food & drink and incredible arts programing. By night the Annex Courtyard was transformed into a stage for Humber River Shakespeare Co.’s production of Macbeth…
One of the new additions to Cuisine-Art programming was Eat Local Cook-Off hosted by Jen Clark of Eat Local Caledon. Saturday’s competition saw Owen Vulpe of What's Cookin' vs Josh Blake of Soulyve, with Owen cooking the winning dish, Sunday’s winner was Gilles Roche of Gourmandissimo, over Thorntin Macdonald of Bistro Rivere/Belfountain Inn.
A huge thanks to all who helped make this Cuisine-Art the most delicious yet!

A hand-crafted bowl and a variety of tasty soups prepared by local chefs are the main ingredients of an event that raises money for local food banks.
The Alton Mill Arts Centre hosted its second annual Empty Bowls on Oct. 22. Approximately 200 guests joined the soup line for the chance to choose one of hundreds of bowls made by area potters. Their bowls were then filled with one of five soups on offer for lunch. At the end of the meal, they went home with the bowl, a full belly, and the knowledge that they had helped the less fortunate in the community. This year Empty Bowls raised over $11,000.
Event was organized by local potter, Ann Randeraad who is located in studio 209.

The concept behind Empty Bowls was initiated by Michigan Art teacher John Hartom in 1990. The idea is to have participating artists to create and donate bowls, then serve a simple meal, the objective being to organize a charitable event to give artists and art students a way to make a personal difference.
Empty Bowls has since grown into an international project to fight hunger at a community level.
Ann Randeraad, a potter at the Alton Mill, brought this iniative to the Mill last year and the response was overwhelming. The first Empty Bowls at the Alton Mill was sold out completely. This year there are 200 hand crafted bowls that will be filled with soup from local participating restaurants. Attendees can enjoy their soup during either the lunchon sitting (11:30am – 2:00pm) or the dinner sitting (3:30pm – 5:00pm). Both sittings will include live musical entertainment.
New this year is the opportunity for attendees to make their own stone bowls through a workshop with stone worker Doug Bell. The price of admission covers this option as well as the meal.
Tickets for Empty Bowls are $35.00 and include handcrafted bowl as well as meal of soup and bread. For more details including how to buy advance tickets...

Welcome to our new website and logo. The original Alton Mill logo dates back to the conception of the project in the late 1990s. We felt it was time for a fresh new look that reflects the unique combination of heritage preservation and sleek modernity that characterizes both the rehabilitation of the building and the creative vibrancy that is generated by our artists every day. The logo was crafted by local graphic designer Paul Hogeveen. The website was built by Gabriel Grant with the assistance of designer Paul de la Merced.Thank you to the numerous photographers who contributed material used on the site.
