Jeremy Grant Honoured for Community Work in Canada 150 Celebration

As part of the Canada 150 celebrations, Member of Parliament for the Dufferin-Caledon riding David Tilson recently honoured individuals at the local level for outstanding services to the community. On September 14th, co-founder of the Alton Mill Arts Centre, Jeremy Grant was recognized for his contributions to the preservation of local heritage and ecological sites through his efforts to restore the Alton Mill and with the millpond rehabilitation project. 

Jeremy commented that although the medallion was presented to him as an individual, the scope of these projects involves a broader network of support from the community:

" ... the mill and millpond rehabilitation projects are the result of a total team effort including huge inputs by my brother Jordan, our families, the professional team of consultants, contractors, our dedicated staff and the amazing volunteers and support from the community at large. I occasionally joke that the "Mill has been a millstone around my neck" due to the complexity and level of detail required to put it all together. In all seriousness though, the Alton Mill is a work in progress and has so much potential on the arts, heritage, tourism and environmental fronts and it has been an honour to be involved in the project."

Jeremy was the Committee Chair of the Alton Millpond Rehabilitation Project from its inception in 2009 to 2016 and now is on the Board of Directors of the Alton Millpond Association. He was also recently on-site for Culture Days at Arts Centre, giving free and in-depth heritage tours to members of the public interested in the history and restoration of the site.
