I have always had a strong interest in textiles, fibre and needlework arts, which I did not pursue until the 1990s when my personal journey led me to rediscover my lost talents.
I take fabrics and manipulate them in spontaneous, intuitive ways, using stitching, both machine and by hand, dyeing, with natural and chemical dyes, and distressing by burning, cutting and washing. Sometimes I add words and images to the mix through photo transfer.
I make wearable art for the simple joy of creating something beautiful. Alternatively, I express myself through the clothing form and the multilayering of texture, colour and stitching to convey a narrative that is both personal and historical. -
