May 29, 2023 - ALTON, ON: Around the Square is a square foot show with a few twists and a lot of colour,colour, texture and a variety of subject matter. There is no theme to this exhibit. We asked artists in the call to entry if they were “A Square or a Round aficionado?” It was all about the choice of canvas size, 12” X 12”, be it square, or round.

The member’s show includes 35 artists who have created a beautiful spectrum of dynamic works on both a square canvas or on a 12 inches in diameter canvas called a Tondo. The 110 works on exhibit include creations in a variety of mediums including: oil, and acrylic paintings, fibre/textiles, clay, encaustic/mixed media, fine art photography and mixed media. All works will be priced at $250 each.

Participating member artists include: Anastasia Meicholas, Bhavna Bhatnagar, Carole Watson, Christina Schilling, Christine Thammavongsa, Dana Darling, Deb Menken, Deborah Powell, Ellen Cameron, Joe Gohl, Haley Marfleet, Helen Duplassie, Iris Ranieri, Jason Misurka, Jennifer Brighton, Jody Leamen, Julie Park, Justin Morris, Karen Brown, Lynn Gilbank, Lynn Malenfant, Margaret Peter, Mary Perkins, Michelle Heitzner, Mina Zare, Nahid Azari, Pat Hertzberg, Philippa Hagenow, Sabine Richtmann, Samantha Hurley, Sophia Vandenberg, Susan Powell, Suzanne Walsh, Vanessa Hertzberg and Vanessa Sica. 

Nahid Azari, an artist from Orangeville, says this about their acrylic painting called “Tranquility”, “As a member of the Headwaters Arts organization, I would like to participate in the shows in the Hills of Headwaters region. The Around the Square is an inspiring show that provides an opportunity to support the organization while meeting other artists and their art work.” Julie Park says this about her painting,“A hydrangea blossom is made up of many little flowers, that are often a different shade or shape, creating a beautiful harmony. Just like how the hydrangea blossom, lilies and the shimmering lake defines what Spring is like for me in Toronto, there are so many various of flowers, places, food, colours or subjects that might define each and everyone else's Spring as everyone experiences and views the same subject in a different perspective.” Meet the artists and enjoy refreshments at the official Opening Reception to be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023 from 1-3 pm at the Headwaters Arts Gallery in the Alton Mill Arts Centre, Alton, Ontario.
